Alexandra
recently graduated with an Upper Second degree in music
from the University of Huddersfield, having previously
studied piano at Trinity College of Music in London. She
was a member of the Brighton Youth Orchestra in 2004 and
performed with them at Glyndebourne Opera House and for a
concert at the Brighton Dome featuring Evelyn Glennie.
During
her time at Huddersfield she performed regularly with the
orchestra, symphonic wind orchestra and new music
ensemble, with whom she performed a concert as part of the
Huddersfield Contemporary Music Festival which was
subsequently broadcast on BBC radio 3.
She has
given workshops in schools, demonstrating the harp and
compositional techniques for the instrument. While
studying at university she often helped composers to write
for the harp, being an instrument which is often
misunderstood. She believes that it is important for young
musicians to have the opportunity to learn about less
common instruments and their capabilities. |
