Harpist - NE09
Yorkshire, Cumbria, Northumberland
, Co. Durham & Lancashire

Photo of harpist ne09 based in Yorkshire, playing her larger concert harp.

This harpist began her studies over many years with Dorothy Gilbertson in Harrogate, gaining Grade 8 ABRSM in 1996. She went on to play with many youth orchestras, including the Northern Junior Philharmonic Orchestra and The University of York Symphony Orchestra.

Graduating with a BA (hons) from the University of York, she continued her studies with the harp in the field of Harp Therapy, training with Christina Tourin in San Diego.

She was featured performing on BBC Radio York in 2004 and in 2009 she was on BBC Look North providing therapeutic music for pregnant women.

A proficient performer, she is a Wedding specialist alongside her thriving home teaching studio and therapeutic music practice. Having a sensitive outlook this harpist is a particularly ideal choice for a Funeral.

Weddings

A Wedding Harpist with over 15 years’ experience, she provides music during the service/ceremony, including the couple's choice for the Entrance of the Bride, the signing of the Register and the Exit of the Bride and Groom. After the Wedding her focus shifts to entertaining the guests, providing background music for the drinks reception (often outside) while the happy couple are having their photographs taken. It is particularly recommended to choose your favourite pieces again, for her to play if you are having a line up before the Wedding Breakfast. You might find that once you have had the time to sit down and eat you are able to relax and really appreciate the entertainment on offer for yourselves at this point in the day.

The Ceremony or Service, which includes a 20 minute prelude as the guests are arriving (allow 1 hour)

The Drinks Reception (usually around one to one and a half hours of playing including a short break)

The Wedding Breakfast (about 2 hours playing time including a short break, she will take you to the start of the speeches).

Combination bookings of the above are recommended.

Corporate Events & Private Parties

Up to around 3 requests can be taken in advance for Corporate clients and private parties, but she is accustomed to choosing and delivering a programme for your convenience. Prices are charged based on an hourly rate subject to a minimum fee so it is better value to ask for e.g. 2 hours than 1.

She has an amplifier which is suitable to play for up to around 500 guests. For larger venues a PA system would need to be provided.

Funerals

She has a sensitive and naturally quiet manner, and is has the experience you need to help you ensure the Funeral has an appropriate ambience. She is happy to help with the choice of music, playing hymns, songs and pieces of music which will be agreed upon well in advance to put your mind at rest.

Which Harp?

The Concert harp or pedal harp, is the harp played in Classical Orchestras. This harpist has both a beautifully French styled Concert Harp as well as a light maple Celtic harp. (Celtic harp pictured right)

The Celtic Harp is often chosen for its small size in more intimate venues, although it has a slightly more silvery tone, it really does rival the classical harp. It's often associated with traditional and folk music, however, it is also possible to play the vast majority of the repertoire played at Weddings on it.
